Monica Puig just made history in Rio by becoming the first Puerto Rican female to win a medal, and the first gold medalist for Puerto Rico, ever. She did it by beating three Top 10 regulars: Garbine Muguruza, Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber.

After the best week of her career, the world No. 35 returned home, and embraced the little things, like playing with her new dog, who she had named Rio before winning gold.

Sadly, Puig had to leave Rio behind when she left for... Rio.

The reunion was nothing short of heart-warming. Who knows, maybe one day the canine will be the latest edition to the pups traveling on tour.

But first, Rio will need to get used to Puig's weapon of choice, tennis racquets.

While she may be an Olympian champion now, Puig is still just a girl who loves her dog. The 22-year-old is set to make another splash at the final Grand Slam of the year later this month.
