As the Big 3 Era begins its final act in the wake of Roger Federer’s retirement last fall, the men’s game is evolving faster than the tennis world may be ready to admit. But with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal still gamely competing for major titles, is Generation Next ready to be Generation Now?

GQ Magazine tries to answer that question in its latest edition of #GQHype, spotlighting seven of the ATP tour’s most intriguing young players.

Stars of the ‘Break Point’ Netflix docuseries are in full force for the eye-catching photoshoot shot by Ilya Lipkin, including Félix Auger-Aliassime, Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, and Stefanos Tsitsipas—with worthy colleagues Frances Tiafoe and Holger Rune joining the crew.

In the feature story written by Samuel Hine, GQ describes a sojourn to the Rolex Paris Masters last fall, an auspicious choice for a writer looking to see the game’s future on display given Rune’s eventual victory over Djokovic in a thrilling three-set final.

Still just 19 years old, Rune made his Top 10 debut following his maiden Masters victory, and began the 2023 season by reaching his first fourth round at the Australian Open.

Of the seven men profiled, only Tsitsipas remains in contention for the title, but looks to have as good a shot as ever a slew of upsets leave him the overwhelming favorite to reach the final.

“A phenom with wanderlust,” writes Hine, “Tsitsipas carries a handheld video camera everywhere he goes to record travel vlogs, and posts his landscape photography on Instagram in between tennis clips. To a greater degree than most players, he keeps to himself.”

There will be plenty of people surrounding the Greek star if he proves the hype is real in Melbourne.
