Halep earns the Chris Evert WTA World No. 1 trophy

Simona Halep may not get to hold the WTA Finals trophy, but things aren't all bad as she still got a year-end title.

The Romanian was awarded with the newly-named Christ Evert WTA World No. 1 trophy, having ended the year with the top ranking for the second time in a row.

Despite having to pull out of Singapore due to a back injury, Halep kept her ranking.

Evert, an 18-time Grand Slam champion, was the first person to top the rankings when they were first introduced in 1975.

Halep had a stellar first half of the season, winning her first Grand Slam title in Paris. A back injury during the Asian swing forced her to retire from numerous tournaments or fall in the first round.
