Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou's on-and-off player-coach relationship is off again.

The Dane announced Monday on social media that after some "good talks" with his "great friend," the pair are ceasing working together professionally just four months after their partnership resumed.

"I have had some good talks with Patrick, and we mutually decided to part ways," Rune wrote. "He will always be a great friend, but for now, the best setup for me is to continue with Kenneth [Carlsen, his fellow Dane], who will be present at all practices and tournaments.

"Nothing change in my relation [sic] to Mouratoglou academy who always have been very helpful to me."

Rune's history with the Frenchman and his eponymous tennis academy dates back to his adolescence, but he and Mouratoglou previously worked together one-on-one from October 2022 to April 2023, a period in which Rune rocketed up the rankings and also captured his first ATP Masters 1000 title at Paris-Bercy to cap his 2022 season. At the time of their first split, Rune's mother and manager Aneke Rune alluded in an interview with the Danish newspaper *Ekstra Bladet* to "ego clashes" within the team as a reason behind it.

But in February, after a spell with Boris Becker and a short-lived stint with Roger Federer's former coach Severin Luthi, Rune rehired Mourataglou, saying that they were aligned on their mutual "high goals" for each other.

The news comes, too, amidst a tumultuous health period for Rune, who was forced to withdraw from the Paris Olympics days ahead of the of competition. He was expected to play singles as well as team with Caroline Wozniacki in a much-anticipated mixed doubles pairing for Denmark in his Olympic debut, but pulled out due to a lingering bone bruise in his wrist.

Rune's ranking has dipped this week to No. 17 in the world—11 months after he hit a career-high of No. 4 last August, and his lowest ranking since just before his Paris-Bercy breakthrough.

"I am looking forward to being healthy and back on track again," the 21-year-old concluded.
