Tatjana Maria is a tricky player to face, mostly because she's not afraid to use all of her shots. The world No. 65-ranked German entered Wimbledon with an impressive grass-court season, making the semifinals of Surbiton and Nottingham.

She came eager to challenge in her first-round match against reigning Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber. On Tuesday, Maria used her backhand slice to approach the net, and Kerber attempted to pass her but Maria stuck her racquet out for a mid-court lob. Kerber rushed back for an unexpected tweener. The impressive shot didn't throw Maria off as she she stabbed an unreachable drop volley winner.

In the end, the No. 5-seeded Kerber prevailed, 6-4, 6-3, and both put on quite a show.
