"All of the tournaments were getting pushed, and we didn’t know what was going to happen, so we just stayed in Taiwan for around five months," recalls the former WTA doubles No. 1 in an interview with TENNIS.com.

"I cleaned my apartment, like this, you know," she adds, mimicking a broom. "I got my driver’s license; at my age, I got it a little late! I also got my license of diving, like for beginner diving!"

Once the home front was under control, the 35-year-old traveled around, but kept her social distance from the her country's famed green sea turtles.

"Anywhere you jump into the sea there, you can see big turtles. There’s a very high percentage, to where any time you went into the water, you could see them," she said. "It was very amazing, but you’re not allowed to touch or you get fined up to $10,000 USD by Taiwan.

"My swimming skills are very bad, so I was trying not to touch them, and I didn’t!"

Hsieh will be released from quarantine in just a few days time and will play a warm-up WTA 500 event before the Australian Open.
