All is not well between Taiwan's top women's player, Hsieh Su-wei, and her native tennis federation. She withdrew from Rio Olympic Games and found herself, in the words of her brother, in a predicament that could find her facing a fine.

On Thursday, she formally retired from the Taiwanese team. She reportedly stood firm before dramatic confrontations with sporting authorities (fist-pounding on tables, anyone?) and may not play competitively for her country moving forward.

The 30-year-old is ranked No. 81 in singles and No. 81 in doubles. Hsieh and her partner Chuang Chia-jung were replaced in the draw by Yanina Wickmayer and Kirsten Flipkens, while Hsieh's singles spot was taken by Lucie Hradecka (who fell in the first round to Caroline Wozniacki).
