Eugenie Bouchard is the newest addition to the list of players we’ll miss at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Canadian first confused fans when she took to Instagram stories recently to have her followers guess where she was headed. The photo of her luggage and passport made it clear she was traveling, but when someone guessed Tokyo, Bouchard quickly turned sad.

“I wish x 971017282911929!” followed by a line of crying emojis.

Bouchard has been recovering from a shoulder injury since March 2021, so missing the Olympics wasn’t a huge surprise, but disappointing nonetheless. The 27-year-old has always been proud to represent Canada and would surely love to be doing just that in Tokyo.

Luckily, she’s got the next best thing. If she can’t play for her home country at the Olympics, she can at least pay Canada a visit. After letting fans get a few good guesses in, Bouchard revealed that she’s back in Montreal, her beloved hometown. There’s no doubt that she’ll be cheering hard for Team Canada while holding it down in their stomping grounds.

Now, out of the sling, Bouchard is making great progress from her arthroscopic surgery earlier this summer.
