Reading is what? Fundamental.

And few take that mantra more literally than world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who celebrated World Book Day by winning the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix and updating fans on her #ReadWithIga challenge.

“I've already read 5 or 6 books ([to be honest] I lost count of how many!),” wrote Swiatek, who has been posting reviews of her favorite reads on Instagram since launching the challenge in January.”

Swiatek marked the occasion by creating a poster in both English and Polish, inspired by the athlete/celebrity images many grew up seeing at their local libraries.

“I hope that more people will join us, bookworms, thanks to that!”

The three-time Grand Slam champion has long been an avid reader, and opened up about what motivated her off-court passion to WTA Insider after defending her Stuttgart title on Sunday.

“It just made me feel less lonely in the world,” she explained. “It was just fun mixed with spending time well and getting to know the people that you read about. It's more like you felt like they are your friends.”

How many books have you read so far in 2023? Can you catch Swiatek by season’s end?
