Place bets now because this year's Indian Wells just got a lot more interesting. The BNP Paribas Open will award an extra $1 million to the player who can win both the singles and doubles titles on either the women's or men's side.
It sounds incredibly difficult, but it has been done before. In fact, it's been done six times: Roscoe Tanner in 1978, (with Raymond Moore), Boris Becker in 1988 (with Guy Forget), Jim Courier in 1991 (with Javier Sanchez), Lindsay Davenport in 1997 (with Natasha Zvereva) and 2000 (with Corina Morariu), and Vera Zvonareva in 2009 (with Victoria Azarenka).
The tournament has described this as an incentive for more of the top singles players to play doubles. Currently, 15 men and 12 women are signed on to play both draws. The prize money for both men and women singles stands at roughly $1.34 million.
