John Isner and Nick Kyrgios are playing in an ATP Challenger in Dallas this week, in only the doubles draw, and not together. It's unexpected, but the $135,000 event has drawn in big names before including 2018 champion Kei Nishikori.

Nishikori was on the comeback from a serious wrist injury, while both Isner and Kyrgios are trying to bounce back from first-round losses at the Australian Open. Isner thrives in front of a home crowd, so it's likely he's just looking for some extra practice ahead of next week's ATP 250 in New York. He's also a resident of Dallas with his wife and five-month-old daughter.

Kyrgios is meant to play in Rotterdam next week before traveling back to the United States for the Delray Beach Open. He didn't play in Australia's Davis Cup tie last week, which the Aussies won handily over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The world No. 66 has instead been practicing in Texas. On Tuesday night, he and partner Mitchell Krueger will take on No. 2 seeds Romain Arneodo and Andrei Vasilevski.

Isner will team up with Alex Kuznetsov, who is playing his first pro match since 2016 and has been working as Maria Sharapova's hitting partner. Isner and Kuznetsov drew top seeds Ryan Harrison and Jackson Withrow.

Both Isner and Kyrgios have enjoyed doubles success. The 33-year-old American has won five titles, including Indian Wells last year with Jack Sock. Coincidentally, Kyrgios' first ATP doubles title came in Lyon last year with Sock.
