The WTA's baby boom in 2024 has reached Estonia. Former world No. 2 Anett Kontaveit announced Monday that she recently gave birth to a son named Leon.

Kontaveit, who retired from tennis last year at the age of 27 due to a degenerative back condition, broke the news with a post of a photo of her sleeping newborn on her Instagram account. She had previously announced in May that she and her longtime boyfriend, Estonian soccer player Brent Lepistu, were expecting their first child, and revealed the news via a sleek and modern maternity photo shoot.

"First week with our Leon Enzo Lepistu," Kontaveit captioned Monday's post. "So much love."

Most notably, Ons Jabeur (who said she couldn't wait to be an "auntie" in the comments of Kontaveit's springtime reveal) jumped in to give a special welcome to her "little friend."

Kontaveit's announcement makes it five high-profile WTA players who've given birth this year, beginning with Belinda Bencic who welcomed her daughter, Bella, in April. Petra Kvitova and Alison Riske-Amritraj gave birth to a son and a daughter within days of each other during Wimbledon, while former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki delivered a daughter, also named Bella, earlier this month.
