Former tennis stars Jack Sock and Eugenie Bouchard are competing in all three eligible brackets at the PPA Red Rock Open: singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

While Sock already secured his place in the semifinals Saturday in men’s singles, he fell in the second round of the mixed doubles bracket today. The 20th seed along with former WTA pro Kaitlyn Christian, fell to No. 13 seed Allyce Jones and Travis Rettenmaier.

You may recognize Rettenmaier from his time on the ATP, where he achieved a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 57. But you may also remember him as Donald Young’s partner in crime at The Masters pickleball doubles event, taking out Sock in straight games.

Bouchard faced a similar fate to Sock, losing in the first round with partner Brandon French to Victoria DiMuzio and Roscoe Bellamy in a three-game showdown.

This is Bouchard’s second first-round loss at the Open, but she'll take the court again Friday in the women’s doubles bracket with Genie Erokhina. Double the Genie means double the trouble for opponents Hannah Blatt and Lingwei Kong, especially considering Bouchard will be motivated to extend her stay.

Sock is also set to compete on Friday, going up against Bouchard’s mixed doubles partner in the men’s doubles bracket. With a first-round bye, Sock needs to win three doubles matches to ensure two bracket showings on semifinal Saturday.

But Sock and Bouchard aren’t the only former tennis stars we’ve got our eye on. Entering his fourth PPA tour event since turning pro in 2023, Sam Querrey is also registered to compete at the Red Rock Open.

Participating solely in the men’s doubles bracket, Querrey is teaming up with former college tennis player Ryan Sherry, also beginning his day in the second round.
