By now, you’ve probably heard of David Goggins and his incredible story of perseverance and mental toughness. Known to many as the toughest man alive, The New York Times bestselling author is, for lack of a better word, a bada**. The only member of the US Armed Forces to complete Navy SEAL training, US Army Ranger School, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training, Goggins also holds the world record for most pull-ups completed in 24 hours. He is now an ultra-endurance athlete and motivational speaker.

Recently, Goggins posed a challenge to his social media followers called the 4X4X48. The challenge consists of running four miles, every four hours, for 48 hours. James Blake decided to join in on the 48-mile fun.

“I dug deep plenty of times in my career, but nothing like this,” a visibly exhausted Blake said on Twitter.

Forty-eight miles in 48 hours is a nightmarish challenge to begin with, but combine that with the lack of sleep, and it becomes hellish. The challenge is meant to callous the mind, one of Goggins’ core principles.

“In times of suffering, we forget how hard we really are. Because that’s what suffering is. Suffering is a test. It’s all it is. Suffering is the true test of life,” Goggins says.

Good on Blake for passing the test.
