Is Jannik Sinner a married man? Not quite, despite what a recent tabloid report might want readers to believe.

On Sunday in Shanghai, the world No. 1 shut down a recent sory in Italian media that he was ready to take the next step with his girlfriend, WTA world No. 13 Anna Kalinskaya, with a funny joke in his post-match press conference.

“It was new also for me, to be honest!" Sinner said with a laugh after coming from a set behind to defeat Tomas Martin Etcheverry and reach the fourth round.

To be clear: He didn't propose, either.

“No, I didn't ask, and nothing, nothing happened," Sinner continued. "I just read the details a little bit that it happened after US Open, but it's all false, false news. Thank you.”

Kalinskaya had previously addressed the tabloid reports on Sunday via her social media channels, writing on Instagram: "To clarify things about fake rumors, this is not true," with a rolling-on-the-floor laughing emoji.

Kalinskaya and Sinner began dating earlier this year, weeks after Sinner captured his first major at the Australian Open, with the famously-private Sinner confirming their relationship in a media interview during Roland Garros.

Kalinskaya, who has had a breakthrough season of her own in 2024, later joked in June about keeping up with Sinner's ascent to the top of the rankings, and couple even shared a kiss on camera after Sinner captured his second Grand Slam title of the year at the US Open in September.

And while Sinner is competing in Shanghai, Kalinskaya, seeded No. 10 at the WTA 1000 taking place further inland in Wuhan, defeated Anna Bondar on Monday to reach the second round. Both will be back in action (as boyfriend and girlfriend!) in their respective tournaments after a day off Tuesday.
