Jo Konta and Jo Durie have more in common than just their first names and nationalities. With another gritty performance, this time 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4 over Carolina Garcia, Johanna Konta has put herself into the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

The last time a British woman made the Final Eight at the All England Club was Durie in 1984.

Durie was the last British woman to reach a major semifinal until Konta accomplished the feat at the 2016 Australian Open.

Konta still has some catching up to do to the other "Jo". Durie also reached the semifinals of the French and US Opens, and climbed as high as No. 5 in the world.

Konta's career-high ranking is No. 6, but that could change soon. Were she to win it all this fortnight, she'd rise to No. 3.

Durie won two WTA singles titles and had a lot of doubles success, which Konta tends to stay away from. She won two mixed doubles Grand Slams, and reached the doubles semifinals of three of the four majors. Durie retired in 1995, but has stayed close to the sport, coaching and commentating.

The 26-year-old Konta takes on a very familiar opponent in Simona Halep for a spot in the semifinals.

They have already faced each other twice this year, in the Miami Open quarterfinals and in Fed Cup action. Konta emerged the victor in Miami in three sets—before eventually winning the title—but lost the Fed Cup rubber in straightforward fashion.

Miami was Konta's third career title, passing Durie's success in that regard.
