Kim Ng made history this week when she was introduced as the new general manager of the Miami Marlins. It marks the first time a woman has held the title in Major League Baseball. It also makes her the first woman to hold the GM title in any of the major men’s sports leagues in North America.

Not only is NG the first woman to hold a GM title but she's also the first Asian-American. It's a historic accomplishment and she was met with an outpouring of support and messages from friends and family. But when Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova reached out to express their excitement for Ng, she was floored.

“With 30 years’ experience as a baseball executive, she’s made history as the first woman and first Asian-American to hold the top post in a baseball operations department,” King wrote on Twitter. “Progress!”

King is also involved in the world of baseball as she currently is a minority owner for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Ng was always inspired by the two tennis stars that cracked barriers far beyond the game of tennis, and felt a sense of responsibility to do the same in baseball.

Navratilova was humbled to hear that she was a role model for Ng.

Ng played softball at the University Chicago before climbing her way up the ladder. The Asian-American manager kicked off her career in baseball by interning for the Chicago White Sox. She would eventually be hired full time and would go on to work for the New York Yankees, where she became the youngest assistant general manager in the major leagues at 29 years old.
