Have you been to school? In Zhuhai, Barbora Krejcikova and Veronika Kudermetova have.

Ahead of the first WTA Elite Trophy event in four years, Krejcikova and Kudermetova took time out of their tournament to inspire the next generation on a visit to Dulwich International High School Zhuhai this week, where they met with and spoke to students and staff.

The secondary year-end event will be held for the first time since 2019, and it begins Tuesday. Krejcikova, winner of two singles titles this year, is the top seed, and Kudemetova, the Tokyo champion, is seeded fifth.

The 12-player field also includes Madison Keys, Jelena Ostapenko, Liudmila Samsonova, Daria Kasatkina, Zheng Qinwen, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Caroline Garcia, Donna Vekic, Magda Linette and wildcard Zhu Lin.

Kudermetova was in fact the first of the field to arrive in Zhuhai, having already hit the practice courts days in advance of her and Krejcikova's scholastic field trip.

She and Haddad Maia are in fact performing double duty in Zhuhai, as they are also the top seeds in doubles.

The first edition of the WTA Elite Trophy was held in 2015, and this year's field looks to join a roll of honor that includes major champions Venus Williams, Petra Kvitova, Aryna Sabalenka and Ashleigh Barty.
