In the prime time slot on Saturday night, Nick Kyrgios still put on a show, even if he didn't finish the match. The US Open 14th seed won the first set during his third-round match against Illya Marchenko, and then pulled off a stunning drop shot (perhaps the dropper of the tournament) in the second.

Things went south quickly though, for both Kyrgios and the late-night Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd. The Australian would drop that set, and the next, before calling it quits with a hip injury.

The injury was a huge shame, partly because it was the second retirement on Ashe in as many days, and partly because the 21-year-old was in fine form to make a deep run. Worst still, he was forced to withdraw from doubles with Great Britain's Daniel Evans (who was actually planning to withdraw with a foot injury), marking the end of both their US Open campaigns.

Earlier on Saturday, Evans was one point away from upsetting third seed Stan Wawrinka, but ultimately fell in five sets.

Marchenko now has the task of facing Wawrinka for a spot in the quarterfinals.
