Love pours in for Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur after San Diego-Acapulco double

After Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter swept their respective ATP and WTA 500 titles in Acapulco and San Diego over the weekend, Daria Saville took to X to ask the question on everyone's minds.

"Are Katie and Demon the best-ranked tennis couple right now?" de Minaur's compatriot—who herself is married to another touring pro—quipped after Boulter defeated Marta Kostyuk 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 on Sunday night to take home her second career tour-level singles title in the last nine months, less than 24 hours after de Minaur beat Casper Ruud to win his second straight crown in Acapulco.

Their fellow Aussie, Ellen Perez quipped in response that Saville (a former Top 20 player currently No. 112 in singles) and her husband, Aussie mostly-doubles specialist Luke Saville, formerly ranked No. 23, had "some work to do."

But the proof in Saville's good-natured social media post is in the pudding: As a result of her exploits in San Diego, where she beat four seeded players in five wins against players ranked ahead of her, Boulter moves up from No. 48 to a career-high No. 27 in this week's WTA rankings, while de Minaur still sits in the ATP's Top 10 that he broke into in January.

Fellow players and fans alike were quick to share their love for the couple on their near-simultaneous achievement, with Saville and Perez's kudos echoed by Donna Vekic, whom Boulter beat in the quarterfinals.

It was a family affair, too: De Minaur softened hearts in the aftermath of his Saturday victory by saying he was eschewing any traditional victory celebration in Mexico so he could take a 6 a.m. flight out Sunday morning to be courtside and support Boulter later that day. (The weather eventually helped his cause some, as rain pushed back first serve in the singles final by about two hours.)

De Minaur was joined courtside by Boulter's mother, Susan, and brother, Alexander, who flew across the pond for the final, along with British Billie Jean King Cup captain Anne Keothavong.

"He [de Minaur] finished last night at midnight ... and I want to embarrass him a little bit, he got on a 4:15 taxi this morning and a 6 o'clock flight to be here today, so I really appreciate it," Boulter joked of her beau in her San Diego victory speech.

The pair shared a sweet embrace after Boulter finished off victory against Kostyuk, and later, filmed a joint selfie video for the official ATP and WTA social media accounts in which de Minaur christened their whirlward efforts "a pretty good week."

"We played some amazing tennis," he said, while they both beamed.

“He had an incredible week himself," Boulter later said in her post-match press conference. "I think I’ll begin to process it in the next couple of days, but what he’s done is insane. To go back-to-back titles at a 500, that’s what I aspire to be like. Let’s see if I can do it in San Diego next year.”
