Marketa Vondrousova weds fiancé Stepan Simek during injury lay-off

Former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova tied the knot with longtime partner Stepan Simek over the weekend, sharing photos from her nuptials with fans on her official Instagram.

“Šimkovi,” wrote Vondrousova, who also updated her Instagram bio to reflect her married name: Marketa Simkova.

The 23-year-old first announced her engagement last summer, on the heels of her Olympic silver medal finish at the Tokyo Summer Games. Ranked in the Top 15 before the COVID-19 pandemic, Vondrousova has struggled with multiple left wrist injuries since reaching her first Grand Slam final and underwent a second surgery earlier this spring. Her most recent match came at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, where she pushed Ons Jabeur to three sets.

She and Simek were nonetheless all smiles on their special day, enjoying an outdoor wedding at Chateau Mcely—a resort hotel outside Prague—where they took commemorative photos on a well-manicured tennis court.
