The desire to expand their family previously came to light on Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Miami. Lemigova, 52, gushed when discussing the life-changing decision, but later on the reunion show she opened up about the way her partner's health took priority following Navratilova’s cancer diagnoses.

"When you're adopting a child, it has to be about the child," she said at the time. “And right now, it's everything about Martina, and for her getting healthy. So we're putting it on hold.”

Navratilova, 67, previously overcame breast cancer in 2010 before tests revealed in January 2023 that she had Stage 1 throat cancer and early-stage breast cancer. In June of that year, the International Tennis Hall of Famer stated that she had the “all clear” from doctors following her course of treatment.
