“Beer was never so sweet as this sip.”

Given the context, we understand where Martina Navratilova is coming from!

On Wednesday evening, the International Tennis Hall of Famer took wife Julia Lemigova out to dinner for her birthday. But little did Navratilova know she’d soon join in with another celebration going on at the same restaurant.

Two nights earlier, the Florida Panthers clinched the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history after holding off the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in a winner-take-all Game 7. On X (formerly Twitter), Navratilova shared a photo with Finnish center Aleksander Barkov, captain of the Miami-based NHL franchise.

But it was what followed that would make any hockey fan jealous.

For the 18-time major singles champion was given the opportunity to drink from the iconic Cup. What was inside?

“It was Stella, if you must know,” revealed Navratilova.

Next week, Navratilova will help lead Tennis Channel’s Wimbledon coverage. She owns the most singles titles in event history, woman or man, with nine to go with seven women’s doubles crowns and four mixed doubles trophies.

With all that hardware to pull from, it only seems fair that Navratilova eventually returns the favor to the Panthers players by passing around sips of Pimms or champagne.
