In a first-round contest of the single elimination WTA Finals doubles draw, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova outlasted Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova, 5-7, 7-6 (6), 10-2.

They saved three match points in the two-and-a-half hour battle.

So naturally their reaction on court was dramatic.

Things won't get easier for the US Open champions next when they face top seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic. The French pair will be seeking revenge after falling to Mattek-Sands and Safarova in both the New York and Wuhan finals.
