On Monday, First Lady Melania Trump announced the completion of the new White House Tennis Pavilion. In June of 2019, the project was approved by the Commission of Fine Arts and the National Planning Commission.

The design of the pavilion matches the neoclassical style of the east and west wings of the White House. The parapet walls, the colonnade and the large fanlight windows tie together the new building into the overall look and feel of the White House.

"History continues to unfold at the White House & I am pleased to announce the completion of the tennis pavilion. Preserving this historic landmark is vital & I want to thank all who helped complete this project,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Although the new tennis pavilion is quite the vision, many people are not happy about the timing of the First Lady's announcement. With the pandemic raging across the United States and many hospitals near capacity, *Glamour Magazine* reportsthat many are perceiving the reveal as tone-deaf.

This isn't the first time the tennis pavilion project has been met with harsh criticism. Back in March, Trump posted an update on the pavilion's progress, which was also met with negative reactions as the United States braced for its first lockdown.

However, Trump hopes that this new building will provide future families with a space to relax and gather with friends and family.

“It is my hope that this private space will function as both a place of leisure and gathering for future First Families," she said.
