Coco Gauff has gotten her share of congratulatory messages in the wake of her run to the Roland Garros final, but one stands out above the rest.

Michelle Obama tweeted her praise of the 18-year-old American after her victory over Martina Trevisan in the semifinals:

“I'm so proud of you, and I will be rooting for you all the way!” wrote the former First Lady, retweeting Gauff’s own emotional message on Friday.

Gauff and Mrs. Obama first met in the summer of 2019 after Gauff’s breakthrough run to the fourth round of Wimbledon. The two teamed up at the Citi Open to exchange an autographed tennis racquet and a copy of the former First Lady’s autobiography, Becoming.

"I wish you courage, strength, joy and love on your journey to become more," read the personalized inscription.

“Her words and wisdom on my journey will stay with me on the court over the course of my career,” Gauff tweeted later that day. “She is a true inspiration.”

Gauff will contest two Grand Slam finals this weekend, not only in singles against world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, but also in doubles alongside fellow American Jessica Pegula.
