NEW YORK — Putting Gael Monfils' match against Jan Satral on Arthur Ashe Stadium was the best possible solution to Jiri Vesely withdrawing against Novak Djokovic. The Frenchman put on a show for the crowd, the kind of show only he can pull off.

Just two days after dismantling the court-side clock, the 10th seed won his second-round match in straight-forward sets, 7-6, 7-4, 6-3, and he had a lot of fun on the big boys' court.
