Murray falters while Anderson shines in Abu Dhabi

It was an unpredictable day for fans at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships as injuries continued to mix up the field in Abu Dhabi.

Novak Djokovic’s comeback was delayed with his announcement that his elbow was still not fully healed despite plans to play the exhibition event.

Djokovic’s comeback isn’t far away however. He’s still slated to begin his season next week in Doha.

Replacing the Serbian in the draw was another multiple-major winner trying to come back, Andy Murray. He was practicing in Abu Dhabi ahead of his official return in Brisbane next week, and agreed to play an exhibition set against Roberto Bautista Agut.

Murray looked rusty for much of the one-set affair, falling behind early and going down to the Spaniard 6-2. Bautistas Agut is also playing in Saturday's final against Kevin Anderson.

The South African maintained his unblemished record (6-0) against Dominic Thiem on Friday, powering past the Austrian 7-6, 6-4.

Russian youngster Andrey Rublev secured a fifth place finish with a solid showing over Pablo Carreno Busta, 6-4, 6-2.

On Saturday, all eyes in Abu Dhabi will be on the return of 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams. She takes on French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko for the first time since giving birth in September.

Following Williams’ highly anticipated return will be the final between Anderson and Bautista Agut. Thiem and Carreno Busta will face off for third place to start the day.
