Alcaraz N IW2

It’s official: the “N” stands for Netflix.

A few days after world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz lit social media ablaze when he wrote a cryptic “N” on a camera lens at the BNP Paribas Open, tennis fans finally got to hear the news they were hoping for.

Netflix announced on Thursday that a new tennis documentary project is in the works called Alcaraz, the docuseries, which will follow the 20-year-old from Murcia both on and off the court during his 2024 season. Cameras began rolling during The Netflix Slam, where he defeated 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in an exhibition match in Las Vegas.

"I am very happy for this experience with Morena Films and Netflix,” Alcaraz said in a statement. “People are going to get to watch everything you don't see on a tennis court. I think it's something very different. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I will.”

The project is only the latest sports story to head to Netflix, with the American streaming giant also featuring highly successful documentary series like Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Full Swing, NASCAR: Full Speed, Quarterback and more.

It’s also the first tennis project announced since the news broke that *Break Point* would not be renewed for a third season. Created by the team behind DTS, it was initially met with enthusiasm from players and fans but eventually fizzled out, with insiders citing poor viewership numbers, lack of engaging personalities and insufficient access to the top players.

"I sat down and watched my part together with the guys who made it, and, no offense to them, but I wasn't really impressed with the show," Casper Ruud told press in Indian Wells. "It just demanded too much of my time, because they want you to do this and they want to do this, and everything was a little staged in my eyes."

At least Alcaraz, the docuseries won't have to worry about personality or access as the 20-year-old—already one of the most charismatic players on tour—peels back the curtain on his rapid ascension to superstardom.

Created by Morena Films, Alcaraz, the docuseries is set for release in 2025.
