Back in 2004, a 17-year-old from Spain named Rafael Nadal announced his presence on the ATP World Tour by defeating world No. 1 Roger Federer in straight sets in the third round of the Masters event in Miami.

Since then, Nadal’s established himself as one of the game’s all-time greats, winning tournaments all over the world, but somehow, he has yet to bring home the Miami title. He'll get another crack at it against his longtime rival Federer in Sunday's final. But before that, here’s a look back at his runner-up finishes over the years.

After winning the first two sets, Nadal appeared to be well on his way to victory. However, Federer was able to take the third in a tiebreak, then ran through the next two sets.

Their two previous encounters had gone the distance, with Nadal prevailing both times. This time, though, it was Davydenko who turned the tables on that, defeating Nadal in straight sets.

In a rematch of the Indian Wells final just two weeks prior, it was again Djokovic that would emerge the victor. This was the second of six finals they would play against each other over the year, each won by Djokovic.
