Rafael Nadal is on fire. No, not quite as literally as his clever Instagram post, but his game is looking better and better by the day at the US Open. He launched into the quarterfinals with a straight-set win over Alexandr Dolgopolov on a warm Monday.

Though the temperatures were no where near the usual New York summer highs, it was one of the hottest days of the fortnight. Odds are Nadal is thinking more about how his game has been on fire.

The win over Dolgopolov marked Nadal's 50th at the US Open.

He took on the youngest quarterfinalist since 2011 on Wednesday, Andrey Rublev.

"Well, of course he's young, but at the same time, he's in quarterfinals," Nadal said. "So of course he has things to lose. And of course I have things to lose and things to win. But I tell you one thing, no, this sport is about victory.

"This is not about defeats. No, at the end of your career, nobody remember your defeats, your losses. People remember the victories."

"I think he's so professional. He try to do everything perfect," Rublev said about his idol, Nadal. "That's why he's No. 1, one of the best guys in all the history."

Rublev is just 19 years old and the first "ATP Next Gen" star to make the final eight of a major. Nadal ousted him in an efficient manner, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
