Osaka Japan LV Thumb

Carlos Alcaraz may be the Paris Olympic Village’s selfie king, but Naomi Osaka may have just taken the title of its style queen.

The Japanese player has been serving up looks and mingling with the fashion world in Paris during the 2024 Olympic Games—which has already been declared the most stylish in recent memory long before a tennis ball has been struck or a single boat has sailed down the Seine.

Osaka proved she understood the assignment, as she joined celebrities and fellow Olympians at the Fondation Louis Vuitton for the “Prelude to the Olympic Games”, a star-studded event hosted by LVMH and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Serena Williams was also in attendance, as one of the event’s co-hosts alongside Pharrell Williams, Charlize Theron, Rosalía and Omar Sy. Party guests included Grammy-winner Rosalia, social media personality Emma Chamberlain, Team USA basketball star LeBron James, and more.

Osaka, who famously lit the Olympic cauldron at the 2020 Tokyo Games, rocked a flowy light blue button-down top for the occasion, and paired it with an asymmetrical black skirt and black pumps.

And of course, front and center in her look was a matching Louis Vuitton GO-14 Mini Malletage bag—with Osaka having joined the maison as a global brand ambassador back in 2021.

The event took place at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, an art museum and cultural center sponsored by LVMH that sits on the north end of Paris’ Bois de Boulogne park. On the south end of the same park, and perhaps a world away, sits the Olympic tennis venue Roland Garros.

It was there that earlier in the day, Osaka’s challenging path to a medal was revealed in a draw ceremony for singles, doubles and mixed events. Osaka is set to face the retiring Angelique Kerber in the first round in women’s singles, with No. 5 seed Jessica Pegula possibly looming as a quarterfinal opponent.

Having returned from maternity leave at the start of the year after giving birth to daughter Shai last July, Osaka had listed a strong performance at the Olympics as one of her top goals.

“The Olympics, they mean so much to me,” Osaka told press at Wimbledon. “Growing up as a kid, that's like the one event I remember just pooling around the TV with my sister. We mainly loved watching track. Basically all the sports were fair game.

“I just love being around other athletes. I love the team spirit of it all.”

She was giving plenty of team spirit on social media, as she took to Instagram this week to share a mini-vlog from the Olympic Village showing off an unboxing of her Team Japan bag.

In the video, the 26-year-old takes viewers through all the red and white gear that she and the other Japanese athletes will use at the Olympics courtesy of ASICS, including the expected sportswear, shoes, bags. But Osaka also showed off a few unexpected but “very Japan” care items like miso soup, bandaids and a bracelet.

With Osaka fully kitted up on and off the courts, the Olympic tennis event is set to kick off on Saturday, July 27.
