Naomi Osaka revealed on Monday that she had broken up with longtime partner Cordae, who is also the father of their daughter Shai, on social media.

“No bad blood at all,” wrote the former world No. 1, “he's a great person and an awesome dad.

“Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”

Osaka first began dating the rapper in 2019, the same year he released a his critically acclaimed solo debut The Lost Boy. Cordae became a fixture at Osaka’s matches, celebrating on court with her team when she won the 2020 US Open and their relationship was featured in the four-time Grand Slam champion’s Netflix docuseries, which premiered in 2021.

The 27-year-old spoke effusively about Cordae as an artist in 2022, describing his writing process upon the release of his second album, *From A Bird’s Eye View*.

“He actually writes his lyrics,” declared Osaka. “He has to take the time to actually experience the things that he does. It's a really fascinating process.”

Osaka and Cordae announced they were expecting their first child together the following year, leading to the birth of daughter Shai in the summer of 2023.

The two-time Australian Open champion returned from maternity leave in January 2024, and began the 2025 season by reaching her first final in almost three years at the ASB Classic. Though she was forced to retire from the championship match due to injury, Osaka nonetheless made a long-awaited return to the Top 50 of the Hologic WTA tour rankings and is still scheduled to make her ninth main-draw appearance in Melbourne next week.
