It's been quite the year for Naomi Osaka. She's grown in numerous ways as a player but even more so off the court, showing that even top athletes can suffer from anxiety and depression. Recently, the world No. 3 took to Instagram to celebrate her accomplishments by sharing a handful of memories that hold a special place in her heart.

In the post, Osaka confessed that she's always been tough on herself and that she's never told herself she's done a good job which is ultimately self-deprecating and not humble. After taking some time to sit with herself and thoughts, she realized a change was necessary and that from now on she will do her best to celebrate herself. In fact, she thinks everyone should do the same.

"You got up in the morning and didn't procrastinate on something? Champion. Figured something out at work that's been bugging you for a while? Absolute legend. Your life is your own and you shouldn't value yourself on other people's standards," she wrote.

The four-time major champion also mentioned she gives her "heart to everything" and if it's not good enough for people than she can no longer can worry about it. She can't carry everyone's expectations and understands it's OK.

"Seeing everything that's going on in this world, I feel like if I wake up in the morning that's a win. "That's how I'm coming," she said.

The 23-year-old has flooded magazines and news outlets this year by withdrawing from Roland Garros and Wimbledon to take time to focus on her mental health. A topic that is not new, but is often disregarded as its seen as inconvenient and unnecessary but she's changing that narrative along with Venus Williams. The seven-time Grand Slam champion recently partnered with BetterHelp and the WTA to provide $2 million dollars in free therapy.

Despite stepping away from the court, this past year has been successful for the young star. She claimed last year's fan-less US Open and this year's Australian Open. In the Instagram post, she also shared behind-the-scenes memories from both of these triumphs along with a short clip from the Olympics.

She will attempt to defend her New York title and will take on Marie Bouzkova in her opener on Monday.
