Opening his season at the Hong Kong Tennis Open, the Olympic bronze medalist may have been unrecognizable to some upon taking the court. For two attributes have changed.

Gone are Musetti’s flowing locks. Around Christmas, the Italian showed off a drastically shortened cut on an Instagram story and on Thursday, played his first match with the new do.

Musetti discussed his reasoning for changing things up following a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Gabriel Diallo, revealing the encouragement of partner Veronica Confalonieri helped him make the final call.

“I thought about it a lot during last season. The last years I was always having long hair but at the end, it became a little bit annoying with the drying,” Musetti said in an on-court interview. “I decided with my girlfriend. She was the one who made the decision for me, but I’m happy to cut it.

“New year, new look."

The 22-year-old also debuted his partnership with Asics, wearing an all-Heather Purple kit to go with charcoal shoes. Musetti was previously sponsored by Nike in a collaboration dating back to his junior days.

“Hopefully a better season than the last one,” concluded Musetti, who is bidding to lift his first trophy since 2022 Naples.
