Nick Kyrgios is often the first to talk about his positive effect on the game and it appears the Aussie ran headlong into that effect on Wednesday when he and fellow Australian Open doubles champ Thanasi Kokkinakis attempted to secure practice time in an at-capacity Melbourne Park.

“I’m here for a day so just wanted to get some good training in before the 500 in Tokyo,” the world No. 20 explained on an Instagram story.

What followed was a bit from Kyrgios’ friend Elliot Loney, comedian and man of many voices, summing up the situation.

“Tennis stars Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis were left stranded without a paddle as the biggest tennis academy in the world was unable to accommodate the superstars,” says Loney.

Kyrgios captions the video, also posted to his Story: “Just to be clear. We won the Australian Open and we cannot get 1 indoor court for 1 hour.”

All was well later in the afternoon as Kyrgios, Kokkinakis, and Loney all got on court as the former prepares to play his first tournament since reaching the US Open quarterfinal.

Backing up his run to the Wimbledon final, Kyrgios scored another win over then-world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev but lost a heartbreaking five-setter to Karen Khachanov on Arthur Ashe Stadium. While he initially struggled to fathom just how to regroup after such a disappointing defeat, the 27-year-old was largely in good spirits once he got on court to practice.

“Took us over an hour to get a court, but level was always high and the competitive juices were flowing,” he wrote.
