Well, okei then. The racquet of the world's No. 6 star, Japan's Kei Nishikori, slipped out of his hand as he delivered a serve in his Rio Olympics first-round match against Spain's Albert Vinolas-Ramos. That wouldn't be interesting but for the fact that 1) the serve was in, 2) his foe put back a fairly weak mid-court return, and 3) Nishikori would end up winning the point. Roll footage:

The No. 4-seeded Nishikori won 6-2, 6-4, advancing to face Australia's John Millman in the second round. Millman thrashed Lithuana's Ricardas Berankis, 6-0, 6-0 to set up his showdown against shot-maker Nishikori.

It's been said that a man's reach will always exceed his grasp. Nishikori moves on as the living embodiment of that truism.

Other men's winners on Saturday were Marin Cilic (over Grigor Dimitrov) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (over Malek Jaziri), while Americans Jack Sock and Denis Kudla both lost.

Another racquet incident, though of a different variety, occurred int he women's draw with fourth-seed Agnieszka Radwanska falling to Sasai Zheng, 6-4, 7-5.

Keep up with all the scores here.
