Nishikori marries longtime girlfriend Mai Yamauchi

It has been a memorable off-season for Kei Nishikori for one big reason: last week, the top Japanese player married longtime girlfriend and former Japanese model, Mai Yamauchi.

Nishikori and Yamauchi started dating in 2015 and currently call Tokyo home. Yamauchi travels with her husband to various tournaments, but is rarely seen on camera as the duo have kept their relationship quiet.

Sharing the news on his app, Nishikori talks about the recent challenges of the pandemic and his excitement about a new chapter in his life:

"I'm very excited to announce that I have married Mai Yamauchi on December 11th, who I have been dating for a long time," the 30-year-old wrote. "As for the off-season, I'm excited for her to travel with me for the coming season which is starting soon. While the corona virus will make things difficult, we look forward to your continued support in the future."

The 2020 season was plagued with injuries for Nishikori, including a shoulder problem in the second half of the season. But it has ended on a high note—hopefully a sign of better things to come.
