Marta Kostyuk would have been forgiven for indulging in a little rest and relaxation after an emotional exit from Roland Garros, and the Ukrainian youngster was asked as much after her opening-round victory at Wimbledon:

Q. In the past month you have been posting pictures from Ireland and Iceland. Why those two destinations?

There’s only one problem: Kostyuk hadn’t traveled to either country.

“I don't think that was me,” she says, somewhat confused. “No. I don't remember, especially in last couple of months probably I didn't.”

While that certainly seems like a question one should be able to answer emphatically, it turns out Marta Kosytuk did do some traveling in the last few weeks.

Just not the one who plays professional tennis.

A cursory Google of Marta Kostyuk + Instagram yields a page belonging to a young woman by the same name. Though she boasts fewer followers than the former Australian Open junior champion, Ms. Kostyuk has nonetheless leapfrogged her more famous namesake in the search results.

Which brings us back to the original question: how did Marta Kostyuk reset after her Roland Garros defeat?

“I came back to Monaco and I was just practicing,” she said. “You know, I was excited to, you know, to work and to go back, because I want to do better always.

“I just tried to follow my normal practice routine, and then I went to UK, I played Birmingham and I couldn't play Eastbourne. I mean, I won doubles in Birmingham but I didn't play Eastbourne in singles. [That] also gave me more time to prepare for Wimbledon, which probably, you know, paid off today, I guess.”

Indeed, it did; Kostyuk snapped a 14-match losing streak against Top 10 players to score her very first over Maria Sakkari, 0-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Having booked her place in Wimbledon’s second round, Kostyuk (at least this Kostyuk) will have to postpone any summer vacation plans she may have made for now. And if she's looking for any inspiration, perhaps she'll seek out the other Marta's Instagram.
