jabeur candle

DUBAI—Despite an early loss at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Ons Jabeur can take plenty of positives from an encouraging Middle East Swing—one of the more unexpected bright spots being the discovery of scented candle inspired by the three-time Grand Slam finalist.

Meet the “Jabeur,” a soy wax offering from candle house Croydon Candles “named after legendary tennis player Ons Jabeur.”

The former world No. 2 was not only unaware the candle existed, she was also surprised to hear of the cucumber-wasabi scent combination meant to represent her.

“I don't like Wasabi,” Jabeur admitted after a 7-6 (6), 6-4 defeat to Peyton Stearns on Monday. “I don't know what that choice is. I would probably put the Harissa better. I'm more a Harissa person.”

Still, the self-proclaimed fragrance fan, who reached back-to-back quarterfinals in Abu Dhabi and Doha, was eager to get her hands (and nose) on the candle created, according to the Croydon Candles website, “in a collaboration between poet Lucy Mercer and artist Jamie Shovlin.”

“I love anything that smells good,” said Jabeur. “Candles, perfumes, anything.

“I need to try this. I never tried it. I just don't know why the cucumber-wasabi. I would ask the person why these choices. Maybe I'm spicy!”

Though the “Jabeur” is currently sold out, surely one more can be made for the woman herself!
