Ons Jabeur is ending her 2024 season earlier due to a continuing shoulder injury, the three-time Grand Slam finalist announced Monday on her social media channels.

The Tunisian played just one match after Wimbledon: a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Naomi Osaka in the first round in Toronto. She was in the draw in Cincinnati, Washington, D.C. and the US Open, but never took the court. Jabeur missed a Grand Slam tournament for just the second time in the last 25 majors when she pulled out in Queens.

The Tunisian has been snake-bitten by injuries in recent seasons. In addition to her current shoulder problem, a recurring right knee issue forced her to miss the WTA 1000 event in Dubai in February during a stretch in which she lost five straight matches. She also retired from her quarterfinal match against Coco Gauff at the grass-court event in Berlin in June.

"This year has been extremely hard for me, and as athletes, we know that recovery is part of the journey," she wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying she made the "difficult" decision in consultation with her medical team.

In July, Jabeur dropped out of the WTA's Top 10, having been ranked among the elite for all but one week since Oct. 18, 2021. Despite her struggles in 2024, she reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros and in Madrid.

But the former world No. 2, who turned 30 years old last month, will keep busy while sidelined.

She says she'll be dedicating herself to charity work "ensuring that we make a real difference in the world," and declared she'll be back playing in Australia at the start of 2025.

"Thank you for all your support, and I can't wait to come back stronger," she wrote.
