Osaka adds Nike to a collection of prestigious endorsements including Nissan Motor Co., Shiseido and Nissin Foods. It's her sixth new deal since winning the US Open last year.

Osaka confirmed the news on her Twitter account after attending a Los Angeles Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors game on Thursday night in a black Nike shirt.

An Adidas contract extension was the more expected clothing update. Reportedly, Adidas was going to offer the Japanese star $8.5 million a year, which would have been the biggest Adidas deal ever with a female athlete. She continued to wear Adidas after her contract expired, winning her second Grand Slam in Melbourne in the brand.

With her first NBA event in Nike behind her, Osaka's first tennis tournament in the new gear will be in Prague which starts on April 22.

The 21-year-old joins recent new Nike ambassador Simona Halep. The Romanian made the switch from Adidas to the Portland-based company in early 2018, less than a year after winning her first major at the French Open. Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Sloane Stephens are just some of the other top athletes also signed with Nike.
