Pete Sampras is asking for 'good thoughts and prayers' from the tennis family after revealing that his wife, Bridgette Wilson Sampras, is battling ovarian cancer.

The famously-private 14-time Grand Slam champion released a statement detailing his wife's condition through the ATP Tour's official social media channels on Sunday. Wilson Sampras was diagnosed last December.

"As most have come to know, I'm a pretty quiet and private person," Sampras' statement read. "However, this past year has been an exceptionally challenging time for me and my family and I have decided to share what's been going on."

Wilson Sampras, crowned Miss Teen USA in 1990, is a former actress, with U.S. television credits on hit shows including "Saved by the Bell," "Murder, She Wrote," "Frasier" and "CSI: Miami" as well as films including "Billy Madison" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer." To treat the disease, she has undergone "major surgery" and chemotherapy, per her husband, and is currently undergoing targeted maintenance therapy.

The couple has been married since 2000 and share two sons: Christian, 20, and Ryan, 18, and Sampras' statement called their support of Wilson Sampras "amazing" during the last year.

"It is hard to watch someone you love go through a challenge like this," he continued. "However, seeing our boys step up and be such strong supporters of Bridgette has been amazing. Watching Bridgette continue to be an incredible mom and wife through it all has been inspiring.

"I have also learned that it is very hard to reach for support when something is simply too hard to talk about. With that said, I will end this by humbly asking for good thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues to thrive on her healing journey."
