It’s pretty unbelievable. Taylor Fritz, who exited Roland Garros in a wheelchair, has advanced to Wimbledon’s second round after a convincing four-set win over Brandon Nakashima. There’s quick recoveries, and then there’s whatever Fritz just accomplished. The 23-year-old tore his meniscus less than a month ago. Science should study Fritz’s genome, as he appears to be part lizard.

Most players wouldn’t even think of gearing up for Wimbledon (with no tune-up events), but not Fritz. Kudos to the American, who is our easiest Player of the Day selection in recent memory. Not only was he brave enough to compete, players have been dropping like flies due to the seemingly slicker than normal grass courts at SW19.

Fritz, currently ranked No. 40 in the world, will face fellow Southern Californian Steve Johnson in the second round.
