After her team put up a valiant effort against the Czech Republic in the finals of the Fed Cup, French captain Amelie Mauresmo stepped down from her post. With her second child on the way, Mauresmo—captain of the team since 2013—is leaving to focus on family.

Her players expressed their gratitude: both for the journey and the guidance she provided:

"Captain, thank you for all that you have brought us during these 4 years. Thank you for this wonderful adventure and all those moments shared with you on and off the court, in both good and bad times! I'll miss you."

Mauresmo, a former world No. 1 who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2015, has had a stellar career as a coach as well. She steered Marion Bartoli to the Wimbledon title in 2013, and guided Andy Murray to his first clay-court title and the finals of the Australian Open in 2015.

Her abilities to lead and nurture, strong assets on the court, are sure to serve her well off it, too.
