The kudos came in spades for Agnieszka Radwanska after she announced retirement, from her peers, and our very own Steve Tignor. One noteworthy trend among many of the tweets of admiration from her WTA rivals is how they – Karolina Pliskova, Alize Cornet, Kristina Mladenovic and more – mention enjoying watching her play versus actually facing off against her.

Still, for all the well-deserved fanfare over her retirement at age 29, one feels that she deserves a tribute that salutes the quirks adjacent to her actual game.

The time has come to fittingly see her off by championing all the funny oddities in her career. With all the further ado one can afford an undersize, counterpunching young woman from Poland who more than survived the post–Martina Hingis period of all-court craftmanship:

1

That Cheesecake Factory sponsorship. Radwanska was effusive in her praise of the restaurant chain's titular dessert. She became the first pro athlete ever to endorse the sugar-centric company, and the brand even tipped its saccharine cap to her on the way out.

2

The time she lasered a 99-mph forehand against Madison Keys, by far the bigger hitter of the two. Forget the 70-mph second serves she flipped in at times. This shot was dynamite:

She knows how to take out an insect. Allergic to bees, Radwanska reacted to the presence of one on a New Haven reporter's shirt about as swiftly and decisively as she reacted to the ball over her career.

A "get low" approach. Radwanska, at 5-foot-8, was one who could always be relied on to drop low for a shot as needed, and especially on her favored grass courts. (She was a Wimbledon finalist and two-time semifinalist at SW19, after all.) May the road bend in her favor moving forward.

Her fashion game. While some have more often panned, not fanned, her Lotto looks over the past few years of sending up tennis style, one must admit this: Radwanska never failed to offer interesting looks. She rocked a distinct outfit at each event she played, especially the majors. That itself will always be commendable. And her off-court style was often gorgeous.

Her penchant for kinesiology tape. Radwanska might also be considered the Mummy for considerable portions of her career, often bedecked in tape, yet always artfully.

That patented laugh. No matter what her situation was – be it a smiling, post-loss chat or a self-deprecating chuckle at the reality of things (as shown below) – Radwanska forever owns a memorable, infectious laugh. Surely that served her well in deciding to retire from WTA play, and surely it will serve her well in all that life holds.

Everyone who has followed tennis over the past decade has a favorite recollection of Radwanska besides the litany of obvious "she's crafty" hotshots. Go on, Ninja. Your 13 years of hits are fit for tennis' own time capsule.
