In St. Petersburg, Russian teenager Andrey Rublev faltered against Joao Sousa despite pushing the match to three sets. The 18-year-old attempted a Stan Wawrinka-esque over-the-knee racquet break, but couldn’t quite manage it. Wawrinka is three Grand Slams and 13 years wiser after all.

On Wednesday, Rublev had won his first career match at the home event over Mikhail Kukushkin (6-3, 4-1, ret).

The floppy haired youngster, ranked No. 181, has a lot of time to develop (and improve on his racquet-breaking techniques). Until then, he can just keep doing this.
