The world No. 1's got jokes. Ahead of her debut in Montreal for the Omnium Banque National, Iga Swiatek has the press rolling with her humorous take on the tournament's venue, with which she shares a name ... sort of.

"Having a stadium named after me is a huge privilege," Swiatek said Sunday in her pre-event press conference, grinning, when talking about Montreal's IGA Stadium. "Let's pretend that's the story!"

As laughter in the media room died down, Swiatek got serious ... if only for a moment.

"It's just a nice coincidence. It's fun," she continued. "I feel more happy when I see that it's IGA Stadium. ... They should do this more."

Jokes aside, Swiatek enters Montreal on a high after winning a much-desired fourth title of the season at her home event in Warsaw, Poland two weeks ago. She didn't lose a set en route, and lost just one game in the final against Laura Siegemund.

What a week it was ... I was and will be honest about how important and difficult this tournament was for me. And that's why I'm so proud of myself," she wrote on Instagram afterwards.

"I read somewhere that the 250 WTA tournament is not as important as my next challenges in Canada and in the U.S. It was very important to me and I'm glad that I felt so much support and positive energy from you."

Playing in Canada for the third time in her career, Swiatek's last two appearances at the tournament came when they were held in Toronto. She made the third round in her debut in 2019, and was upset at that stage last year by Beatriz Haddad Maia, who went on to reach the final.

In her first match, after a first-round bye, Swiatek will face either former No.1 Karolina Pliskova, or China's Zhu Lin.
