Saville, Purcell talk about a puppy after reaching semis

Back to tennis: Saville and Purcell are on an eight-match win streak and have already claimed their first title of the year, an ATP Challenger in Bendigo.

Luke Saville and Max Purcell are continuing their undefeated start to 2020 in memorable fashion. The pair eased past Ken Skupski and Santiago Gonzalez, 6-2, 6-4, in front of their home crowd in Melbourne to reach the Australian Open semifinals.

The team is made up of doubles world No. 82 Saville and doubles world No. 88 Purcell. Neither are ranked inside of the Top 200 in singles.

But it wasn't their quarterfinal win, or surprising run, that was the topic of discussion on court, but rather Saville's puppy Tofu.

Q: "We just saw Dasha, who's here supporting tonight, she's already on her phone. Is that with a debrief, is it with feedback for you already?"

Saville: "I think it's probably spying on our puppy. We've got a live camera at home, so I'm sure he's tucked up in bed, and she's keeping an eye on him."

Q: "Hang on, are you. for real? Your new puppy, which I've seen on Instagram, is home on its own but there's a live camera on that puppy?"

Saville: "There's a live camera, he's got about 50 toys, he's pretty spoiled. But no, it's been fun, there's been a few surprises, It's been a good journey."

Saville attempted to get back onto the topic of their doubles journey, which is exciting considering they were given a wild card into the event, and are now just two wins away from capturing the Australian Open title.

But their semifinal appearance still isn't as exciting as Tofu.

Q: "You have well and truly justified the wild cards. Max, what about puppy cam, it's not distracting from game strategy or anything?"

Purcell: "The puppy camera? No, not at all. Luke's like the first one in here out of all of us. So, he's definitely not too worried about Tofu right now. We can let Dash (Gavrilova) work on that for the moment."
