To commemorate the move, the Miami Open held a private welcome party offering the first glimpse of what the new home will look like.

It was hard to say goodbye to Crandon Park, where Americans John Isner and Sloane Stephens were the last to raise the trophies on the island.

"There are so many good things about the tournament that I'm going to miss, because I have just been used to coming here for so many years," Stephens said. "I'm definitely going to miss it, because Key Biscayne is a hidden gem."

Construction at the Hard Rock Stadium, which is also the home of the Miami Dolphins, began in March. Florida resident and eight-time champion Serena Williams was on hand for the ground-breaking ceremony.
